What types of boats do you deliver?
We specialise in sailing catamarans of any size up to 200gt, but we also handle monohulls (yachts) and other motor vessels. Our experience covers a wide range of designs and complexities.
What is your experience and qualifications?
Between us, we've sailed over 70,000 nautical miles, including multiple Atlantic crossings. We hold RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (Commercially Endorsed), plus RYA Yachtmaster Theory, VHF Radio, Sea Survival, First Aid, Marine Diesel, and PPR. Our qualifications and sea miles speak for themselves.
Do owners usually join the delivery?
It's entirely your choice. Many owners join us for part or all of the voyage (a great way to gain experience or enjoy the passage), while others hand over the keys and meet the boat at the destination. We adapt to what suits you best.
How do you ensure the safety of the boat and crew?
Safety is our top priority. We use professional weather routing for optimal windows, carry appropriate safety equipment, perform thorough pre-departure checks, and never rush passages. We treat every vessel with the same care we'd give our own Lagoon 400, Ocean Fox.
What does the delivery process look like?
It starts with a detailed quote discussion (via email/phone/FaceTime). We plan the route, weather, provisioning, and logistics. Pre-departure includes a full boat inspection, briefing, and handover. During the passage, we provide regular updates. On arrival, we complete a thorough handover, cleaning and any final checks.
Do you provide regular updates during the delivery?
Yes – clear, frequent communication is key. We send position reports, weather updates, and photos/videos as agreed (e.g., daily or on milestones). This is either by cel phone, satellite phone or Starlink depending on the type of passage.
How long does a typical delivery take?
It depends on distance, weather, and route. Coastal hops might take a few days; ocean passages (e.g., Europe to Caribbean) several weeks. We prioritise safe, efficient passages over speed and avoid stacking jobs to give your boat our full attention.
What areas do you cover?
Worldwide – from short UK/European coastal moves to transatlantic or global relocations. We're based in Southampton, UK, so we're well-positioned for Med, Atlantic, or further afield passages.
Can I get a quote? How much does it cost?
Quotes are free and tailored to your boat, route, dates, and preferences (e.g., owner joining). Contact us with details (boat type/size, from/to locations, approximate timing), and we'll provide a clear, no-obligation quotation covering daily rates, travel, and expenses.
What expenses are included or extra?
Our quote typically includes our professional fees. Extras usually cover crew travel to/from the boat, provisions/fuel (if not owner-supplied), marina fees, and any specialist equipment. We keep everything transparent upfront.
Do you work alone or with crew?
For most deliveries, it's the two of us (Simon and Carla) – a perfect team for catamarans and smaller monohulls. For larger or more complex vessels, we can arrange additional qualified crew when needed.
How do you handle weather and delays?
We monitor forecasts constantly and only depart in suitable conditions. If weather or mechanical issues cause delays, we communicate immediately and make safe decisions. Our focus is always on the boat's and crew's well-being.
What preparations do I need to make on my boat?
We handle most preparations, but ideally the boat should be in good working order with valid papers, insurance, and basic spares. We do a full pre-departure inspection and can advise on any recommended fixes or additions.
Is my boat insured during delivery?
We recommend your existing marine insurance covers delivery (most policies do for professional skippers). We carry our own professional indemnity and liability insurance.
Why choose a catamaran specialist like us?
Catamarans handle differently from monohulls – stability, bridge deck clearance, twin engines, etc. Our extensive catamaran miles mean we understand these nuances for safer, more comfortable passages.
Can we meet or talk before booking?
Absolutely – we love FaceTime/Zoom calls to discuss your boat, plans, and concerns. It helps build trust and ensures we're the right fit.
What happens if something goes wrong mechanically?
We're experienced with onboard repairs. We carry out basic repairs and coordinate fixes as need on-route,
Do you have references or testimonials?
Yes – clients frequently praise our professionalism, communication, and care (e.g., "They treated our boat exactly as we would have... incredible peace of mind").
How far in advance should I book?
As soon as possible – popular periods, for example summer Med moves or winter Caribbean runs fill up. Even for flexible dates, early contact lets us plan around weather and availability.
What makes Sailing Ocean Fox different?
We're a dedicated husband-and-wife team with proven ocean experience, no rushing, full attention to your vessel, and genuine passion for safe, enjoyable passages. We deliver stress-free – whether you're joining us or waiting at the dock.
